Objectives
The project objectives were clear: to deliver an outstanding resurfacing renewal within a tight timeframe, in preparation for the London Stadium’s reopening. The project sought to enhance the safety and lifespan of two crucial concrete bridges, both of which accommodate substantial foot traffic. Over 60,000 fans and event-goers traverse these bridges to and from the stadium’s entrance. As a fundamental component of the stadium’s infrastructure, it was imperative for the bridge surface to guarantee the safety of all visitors. Furthermore, it needed to possess remarkable durability to withstand the significant traffic associated with such a high-profile event center.
Solutions
WJ Industrial employed a methodical strategy for the renewal. The current anti-skid and waterproofing systems were diligently removed using planing, diamond grinding, and captive blasting. These techniques readied the bridge deck for the epoxy damp-proof membrane primer, setting a solid base for the subsequent Bimagrip system enriched with Chinese bauxite aggregate. This detailed procedure ensured a bolstered safety and durability profile for the bridge.
Results
The project was a success, underscored by collaboration, strict adherence to deadlines, and consistently delivering high quality standards. Through our specialised surface preparation and coating techniques, we’ve bolstered the infrastructure’s safety and durability, guaranteeing its readiness for countless upcoming events and Premier League matches at the London Stadium.
