Objectives
The primary objective of the project was to enhance the safety and accessibility of the subways in Darlington City Centre. WJ Industrial aimed to provide a durable and anti-slip surface to improve the overall experience for local residents. Preventing further deterioration and ensuring the longevity of the subways were key objectives. Through the use of the Safetrack SC system and effective measures, WJ Industrial aimed to deliver reliable and cost-effective solutions.
Solutions
WJ Industrial employed a comprehensive approach to address the challenges in the subways. The existing surfacing was removed using advanced techniques such as Wirtgen planing, grinding, and handheld breakers followed by captive blasting. To ensure a strong base, each subway received an epoxy primer coat (Par1) and a scratch coat for infills or existing underlying damage. The application of the Safetrack SC resin system provided an anti-slip surface, meeting the safety requirements. WJ Industrial’s in-house trained installation teams ensured compliance with industry-specific standards and applied the materials with expertise.
Results
The project resulted in the successful resurfacing of 950sqm of anti-skid surfacing in the subways of Darlington. The Safetrack SC system provided enhanced safety and durability, meeting the objectives set by WJ Industrial and Darlington council. The resurfaced subways offered improved accessibility for local residents, ensuring a safer and more pleasant experience.
