Captive shot blasting, also known as shotblasting or captive blasting, is primarily used to remove light coatings in preparation for new coatings to be applied. The benefit of using captive shot blasting is how efficient it is to clean and prepare surfaces. It can save time and money as it requires less labour compared to other surface preparation methods. Additionally, captive shot blasting can achieve a high level of surface cleanliness and roughness, which improves the adhesion of future coatings and prolongs the life of the substrate.
Regardless of location or project operations, we’re able to use captive blasting processes to remove any contaminants such as rust, paint, or scale. This is a quick process that shoots steel ball bearings at high velocity into the floor surface using a specially designed dust-free captive shot blasting machine. Using this method, our experienced team can expose a fresh surface layer allowing for new coatings to be applied soon after.
Our team can execute this application across large areas in a limited time, deploying various machines for every situation – from pedestrian push-along blasters to mobile ride-on units, or even lorry mounted units. We work with you to understand the requirements of your project and will always guarantee to dispose of used abrasive materials in a safe and sustainable manner.
Where is it used?
Captive blasting will remove light surface coatings and prepare and clean concrete, asphalt and steel surfaces. This process is used primarily for applications in:
- Roads and highways
- Bridges or on an approach to a bridge
- Schools and educational facilities
- Warehouses
- Automotive workshops
- Car parks
- Ships
- Ports
